Adventure racing!

My teammate John and I will be racing this Saturday!

What is an adventure race? Teams of 2 trek (run) thru the woods using map and compass to locate checkpoints (CP's). We then continue to navigate while on bikes. The upcoming race will be anywhere from 4-6hrs long.

Pray that we would compete well and enjoy being out in God's awesome creation!

Climb-a-thon!

Titan Traverse hosted it's first ever climb-a-thon to raise money for Hands for Haiti and Titan Traverse!

From 9pm Sat night till 9am Sunday morning students spent time climbing on our indoor climbing wall.

Over $500 was raised for these important ministries!

Pray for these students as they head off soon for the summer!

Dominican Trip!

April 2 we returned from a week in the Dominican. 45 people ranging in age from 12 to 81 shared God's love with the people we met. The mission organization serves local villages through medical, dental, optical and vacation bible school.
A glimpse of the Kingdom of God at work!

We were blessed by the faith of these people. They truly know what it means to worship the Lord.
Pray for our Dominican and Haitian friends...may God continue to meet their needs!

Spring break is just around the corner...we'll for those of us who lead spring break trips. The planning has been going on for months and the first informational meeting for students was last night!

I will be leading a backpacking, climbing and mountain biking trip in NC while my co-worker Amanda will be leading a backpacking trip to Cumberland Island Georgia!

Pray for us as we plan and pray that students will sign up to come. These trips become places of great transformation. May students be transformed by the love of Christ.

On Monday we visited Josh's friends farm where we explored the property and even tried to catch some horses! Spencer and Saydi (our dogs) enjoyed trying to heard the horses...they were not very successful!

Fall Break trip!

12 students, myself and my co-worker Amanda spent fall break living in community and exploring some beautiful places! Our theme for the trip was 'leave behind' where we talked about leaving things behind (like homework) to be fully present on the trip and to allow ourselves to be known by others. We hiked, biked and climbed in Cuyahoga Valley National Park and Hinkley ledges.

New relationships were built and old ones were strengthened. Pray that these students know the greatest relationship of all, a relationship with Jesus Christ.

In our combined years of ministry we have seen students face some of life's greatest milestones (graduation and weddings to name a few). We have also walked alongside students as they deal some of life's greatest challenges.

We are thankful for the students God has placed in our lives and grateful that the gospel provides hope for students at all times of their lives.

A day on the lake! Seven students and TT/CCO staff (Amanda and I) spent the night at a friend's cabin talking about being influential leaders. We enjoyed being a way from campus and had fun playing on the lake!

Ropes Course!

Why hang from tires?

These students are part of a group that works with me to keep the ropes course up and running. Groups from the campus and community come to learn how to work more effiectively as a team. We talk about communication, teamwork and trust by having participants do things like swing from tire to tire to reach a goal of getting to the other side.

clothing swap!

A bunch of women + a bunch of clothes = tons of fun!

It was clothing swap night and we talked about being stewards of the things we have. We brought clothes we no longer wear and had a free clothing exchange. We read a brief article about how clothes are made and that as women we only wear about 1/2 of the things we own. The clothes that are left over will be taken to homeless in our community as well as in New York City.

This is a glimpse of the Kingdom...sharing what we have with one another and in one small way realizing the impact we have on the world. Pray for these women as some know Christ and some don't. May we show Christ's love as we work and play together! :)

Gobble Wobble 5k!

God's blessings come in many shapes and sizes! Here is one family, the Commisso's who have been a huge blessing to me! This picture was taken after we all ran/walked the Gobble Wobble 5k on Thanksgiving morning!

This family has welcomed me and numerous students into their home. They are loving people for the Kingdom of Christ. I am so thankful for them and the way God has brought them into my life.

LeighAnn and Rachel (left to right) are 2 girls who came on our fall break trip. LeighAnn and I first met 2 years ago when we went to Cumberland Island Georgia for spring break. She is also a cross country (CC) runner (the CC girls like to eat at my house). Rachel is a part of Titan Traverse (TT) and is also a CC runner who I have known since she came in as a freshman.
Rachel and I had a great conversation while running on our fall break trip. We talked about how our faith in Christ helps us deal with fears.

Spencer, my silly dog, has become the greeting commitee for students on campus. He loves people! While walking through campus we meet students with a smile and a wagging tag. Conversations have started where I get to meet new students simply because they ask, "can I pet your dog?"

The girls in my mentor group come over the house every Monday night and one of the first things they do (sometimes before even saying hi to me:) is say hi to Spencer! He is famous around here!

Off and running!

God has blessed me with the ability to move! I am currently running with Jasmine, a sophomore at Westminster who is on the cross country team. When she first asked me, "hey would you mind running with me on Tuesday mornings" I was excited and little bit nervous about keeping up with this college runner. Our runs have turned into more than just running. We chat about everything as we log sometimes over 10miles a morning. We talk about our faith, what God is teaching us and what we are reading in scripture.
God has opened up a door where my love for students and passion for running go hand in hand. Pray for Jasmine and I as we run...may our conversations be encouraging and challenging to one another. Through this time may we know what it means to truly follow Jesus!

Another year has begun!

This group facilitated 455 freshmen students! Freshmen students are divided into inquiry classes (groups of about 20) that will be spending their first semester talking about transitioning to college. We spent an hour with each class focused on learning names and getting to know each other better. We run around and play games that help these students begin to form relationships with one another.

Why spend time playing games? Because we love students! Through play we are able to enagage in conversations and begin building relationships. We want these students to know that their are people who care about them. Pray for this freshmen class as they begin life here at Westminster!

Continue to pray for our students this summer as they work various jobs around the US! Some are at local camps while others are working at a camp in New Mexico. Pray for Brian, Laura and I (TT/CCO staff) as we work with 2 interns this summer, take our own vacations with family and friends and prepare for the upcoming school year. August and September are 2 of our busiest months and we will also be teaching a class on campus for the first time! We'll be teaching a gym class focusing on group dynamics using rock climbing and ropes course.

It's been a while since I've updated...Here's some highlights of the semester!

40 Westminster students attended Jubilee!

7 students went on our spring break trip to Joshua tree California!

2 students and I met once a week to study scripture!

1 amazing semester and many great memories!

This summer the TT staff are working with 2 student interns, Michael and Andy. We are teaching them about facilitating groups on our ropes course, leading trips like climbing or canoeing and a ton of other fun things. We are also digging into scripture and reading Celebration of Disciplines by Richard Foster.

Pray for us as we live life together...May all the glory go to Christ in this place!

Pancake morning! That's the excited cry of hungry college students coming over to my house for pancakes. A simple breakfast has opened the door for many conversations about faith. Whether it's chatting about how amazing chocolate chip pancakes are or diggin into what the Bible says about salvation, this time is a reminder that God asks us to be faithful to the day. May the 'small' things like pancakes remind us of the greatest things, God's love!

Fall break backpacking trip!

Off to the woods! 10 students and 3 leaders ventured onto the Laurel Highlands trail in PA Oct. 20-23, 2007. Carrying all they needed to survive, the group headed out into an unknown adventure. Leaving behind cell phones, watches and the distractions of a hurried life, the group of students taught lessons dealing with creativity in design. How do we design experiences that are creative, fun and bring out the best in the people we are working with? In presenting answers to this question one group of students sang a song while another group portrayed their fearless leaders in a comical skit.

Continue to pray that these students know the one true creator! The one who has given us the ability to step into his creation...may the beauty of the wilderness leave us in awe of our creator!

Colorado!

My life is an adventure and God opened the door for me to explore Colorado!! I got to visit my cousin Emily and friends. We explored the Garden of the gods (even did a little climbing with my friend Dawners:) visited Denver, Golden, Boulder, and the springs. I even ran a 1/2 marathon at mile high elevation in Denver!

God's creation is amazing! I'm so thankful he's given me the ability to run and explore.

This is my dear friend Kathy Kinzer. She works for the CCO out in Philly where she works with young girls teaching them about abstinence and loving them like Christ loves us.

One of our CCO core values is that faithfulness is pursued together.

Kathy is one of the women who continually reminds me of God's faithfulness and encourages me in this work God has called me to. Pray for her and she works with these young women. For His glory and His Kingdom!

Summer Training Trip!

After a tough hike we made it to the top of Noonmark mountain in the Adirondacks in NY. The women hiked Noonmark while the guys conquered Round and Noonmark!

The first picture was taken at a random park Nicole found by Kent State University. I came to visit and she knew just the place to take her outdoor loving sis! The second picture is of us holding our tackle the tower t-shirts. We ran up some ridiculous amount of stairs at Towercity in downtown Cleveland Ohio raising money for the Ronald McDonald House. Though we are very different the bond of being sisters has allowed us to share many great times together! Nicole is currently working as a nurse and if you ask me I think she's the best nurse ever! Students are finishing finals this week and seniors will be graduating on the 19th! I will continue to work here on campus this summer facilitating groups on our ropes course, running the climbing wall, preparing for next semester and lots of other odds and ends. I will miss the daily interaction with students but am excited for the opportunity to visit some of them this summer as they work at camps in the area.

Spencer (my puppy) and I will continue our adventures of visiting people around town! Watching the smiles on peoples faces when they ask if they can pet him is priceless!

Besides work I'll have some adventure races (running, biking, kayaking, orienteering) and vacation time with family and friends!

Late on a Tuesday night the Titan Traverse (TT) crew met up on the ropes course! Students shared with one another what they appreciated in their fellow students and the ways they had seen one another grow this semester. We then sent them off on a mini zipline.

1 amazing stay on Cumberland Island!

We spent our spring break living in community on Cumberland Island in Georgia! Clearing trails and cleaning up bottles and cans from an old dump site were just some of the ways we learned about stewardship of the things God gave us. We cooked together, played together(including some tree climbing) and talked about the ways we had encountered God on the trip.

God reminded me of his faithfulness by allowing me the opportunity to hear students share with one another about what God was doing in their lives. God even opened the doors for us to discuss how play and faith go hand in hand through reading a section of Michael Yaconelli's book Dangerous Wonder. God is doing Great things...may we jump on board and love others for the Kingdom!

Continue to pray for these students that the love of Christ and the power of the gospel would continue to transform them! Praise be to God!

Jubilee!

Woohooo!!!! We built a climbing wall!!!!! In five days the Titan Traverse staff (chrissy, laura and brian) conquered the task of building a climbing wall (with the help of some students and redpoint adventures who specializes in building climbing walls!).

My roomie from college came to visit me for the weekend! Dawn came to visit back in October and we had a great time hanging out and catching up with one another. I gave her the grand tour of Westminster and we even went for a long run around New Wilmington! We spent some time at Geneva's homecoming, went to an apple festival in town and ate at some great lil restaurants.

Dawn and I have been friends since our jr. year of college and she is someone I can call at any hour! We are thinking about teaming up to do our first adventure race this spring or summer! She is a great runner and while she might be dragging me through the running section we would have a blast competing together! Thanks Dawners for being a women of faith! Keep on running for Him!

God has blessed me with a wonderful friend and fellow CCO staffer here at Westminster. Meet my running buddy Rachel Lantz! Rach and I have been running together and sharing so many stories! Our time together has been so refreshing as we share our excitement and hopes of what God is doing and what he will continue to do in the lives of students on this campus. We have even had a few running adventures... One involved a dog who tried to follow us home! I wanted to keep him, but we ran to the farm where he lives and let his owners know that he wanted to come running with us! Bellefied Retreat!

Climbing fun! I got to work with fellow CCO, OLT (outdoor leadership team) folks and help Bellefield church (Pittsburgh) facilitate a weekend retreat for students from the University of Pittsburgh. Students had the opportunity to choose one of the following activities: caving, climbing, canoeing or hiking. About 70 students came out to play in God's awesome creation and I met about 20 of them as we played on some great rocks!

Kathy was working out with one of my teammates (offering her strength and conditioning expertise) and asked me to join them. I tried to resist this women with the exercise ball, but God knew that the two of us would grow in our relationship with him though this gift of friendship. (If you ever meet my friend ask her to share the story of how we first met...she's a great storyteller!) We've gone through many things in our lives over the years yet the one thing that stays the same is God's love and faithfulness toward us! I am thankful to Him for this women of God and how she has blessed my life!

I had the priveledge of being a part of my friend Jen's wedding! (I call her Kimmer's even though her new last name is Skelton!) For those of you who think I never wear a dress here's the proof! Jen and I went to Geneva College together where she played softball and I hung around in trees! Thanks Jen and Curtis for letting me be a part of your special day!

The great river adventure of September 24! Twenty-two of us (and one dog!) enjoyed a beautiful sunny day on the slippery rock! We spent a few hours on the river and then grabbed dinner at a Chinese buffet!

Our Titan Traverse students meet every other wed morning from 6am-8am! Last Wed. we had a scavenger hunt throughout campus. The first stop was finding my house where we ate muffins and brownies (great breakfast!).

Here the TT gang had the task of taking 5 pictures of the group on the local playground. Looks like they are having fun, even though the sun isn't up yet!

Titan traverse facilitates 49 Westminster swimmers!! We had a great time leading them through team building activities. The athletes did everything from a group lap sit to conquering a giant wall. Thanks to these athletes for making this day so fun! Their energy and enthusiasm will lead into a great season!

These are just some of my CCO friends from NST (new staff training). I haven't seen most of them since July, but got the chance to catch up with them during our CCO staff sem (sept. 14-15). I even got to run with some amazing women who continually encourage and challenge me to live faithfully for Christ!

TT had our first training trip! We played on a natural waterslide, went caving and rock climbing. I got to teach basic climbing skills and the students enjoyed the knot relay! We had a great trip and I am excited to have 2 of the women from the trip in my menotr group this semester! "For the word of the Lord is right and true; he is faithful in all he does." Psalm 33:4

The adventure continues...God has led me to a new ministry working for the CCO. I am now working with college students through Titan Traverse at Westminster College. Titan Traverse is a leadership development/adventure education program. I am excitied to be able to form relationships with students that allows me to share my faith.

Thanks to all my friends at Marmon Valley Farm for your prayers and support as I step into this new adventure! I miss you all and look forward to hearing how God continues to use you to share Christ's love with kids!
